The Lyra-4 offers a more compact and affordable version of the popular Lyra-8, Soma‘s flagship synthesizer. Like its predecessor, it’s referred to as an “organismic” instrument—a term used to reflect its inspiration from organic, living systems.

On a technical level, the Lyra-4 is built around four voice generators arranged in two pairs. These can be played either in an electric organ style or using FM synthesis. The synth also features touch-sensitive pads along the lower edge, allowing for a dynamic and tactile playing experience, further enhancing its “organismic” nature. It also includes a hyper LFO, which is created by combining two standard low-frequency oscillators for more complex modulation.

One of the standout features of the Lyra line is its built-in effects. The Mod Delay unit has a feedback loop that can modulate itself, and also allows modulation of the delay’s sample rate. Additionally, the Distortion effect adds a distinctive, gritty character to the final sound output.

Available in both black and white, the Lyra-4 comes with a unique suggestion from Soma: consider owning two.

“Using two Lyra-4s can give you a completely different sound compared to one Lyra-8,” Soma explains. “With two Lyra-4s, you can create a stereo setup where each unit has its own effects processing. We want users to experience the magic of stereo Lyra.”

To encourage this, Soma is offering a launch deal: two Lyra-4 units for €580 (before tax). If one is enough, you can buy a single unit for €360 (before tax). For more details or to place an order, visit the Soma Labs website.
