Alireza Ashrafpour, aka “The Ash,” is an Iranian electric and fretless (microtonal) guitarist, composer, singer, and folk music researcher. Since 2000, he has crafted a unique style by blending Iranian traditional, folk, and jazz elements. His fusion album, “Golku” (2005–06), was released in 2015. Using his custom-designed microtonal guitar, “Cham-Sia,” he delves into Persian modes and rhythms while working on a book about his harmonic approach. His projects include live performances, writing a guitar method, and producing music for other artists.
