Release date: May 3, 2024

7D Media is excited to announce the forthcoming release of “Tu-Ner for Lovers,” a new album by the talented ensemble of Pat Mastelotto, Markus Reuter, and Trey Gunn. Set to debut on May 3rd, this album is a tantalizing preview to the eagerly awaited US Tu-Ner tour in May.

Tu-Ner’s lineup features string virtuosos Trey Gunn and Markus Reuter, alongside the phenomenal percussionist Pat Mastelotto. They each boast impressive resumes, having worked with a wide range of artists from Brian Eno and Tool to ’80s radio rock favorites Mr. Mister and local art-metal icon Devin Townsend. However, all three agree that working with Robert Fripp was a life-changing experience that ultimately brought them together to form their current touring collective.

In concert, the trio honors their shared connection with Robert Fripp by performing some of the most challenging pieces from the King Crimson repertoire, including the intricately complex “The ConstruKction of Light” and “Larks’ Tongues in Aspic, Part IV,” both introduced during Gunn and Mastelotto’s time with the band. However, it would be a mistake to label Tu-Ner as a King Crimson tribute act. Those songs make up only about a third of their set, with the rest split between the band’s original compositions and spontaneous improvisations that are as free-flowing as any jazz performance, though much louder. It’s these collective creations that truly define the band, as evidenced by Tu-Ner’s second full-length album, the ironically titled “Tu-Ner for Lovers,” which is entirely dedicated to live improv.

Listening to this live recording feels like witnessing the trio journey through unexpected parallel universes. The heavy touch guitar structures, the blaring sounds of the Warr Guitar, and Mastelotto’s fiery drumming combine to create an intense and electrifying experience, capturing the raw energy of their live performances.
